Lions take leave of absence

2015-08-04

It is with a heavy heart that I need to announce that the Lions are taking a leave of absence of 1 year for the upcoming season 2015-2016 from the NSJRCHL.

Several factors have contributed to this decision; notably having only 4 teams (Truro, Spryfield, Metro & Avon) as well as Barrington taking a leave also for this year.

Operating a team in the NSJRCHL can be challenging, and travelling 2+ hours for our closest game is simply too much in a 28 games schedule. Losing our rivalry vs Barrington impacts our income at the gate dramatically. The Jr C league will focus on being more Metro based this season as there are no rural Nova Scotia towns operating in the league.

I'd like to personally thank all our board of directors - Leon Comeau, Phil Doucette, Art & Francine Thibodeau, Rejean LeBlanc & Simon Robichaud, all our sponsors, players & alumni, volunteers and fans who have supported us since our franchise began competing in the NSJRCHL in 2005. This is not the end of the Lions, and we certainly hope to return to the league. We have certainly appreciated everyone's generosity and willingness to help us provide a quality hockey program in our area.

Sincerely yours,

Francis Robichaud
